4th Annual Shop Local, Give Local

On November, 24th (Black Friday) Harmony Natural Foods Co-op hosted our annual Shop Local, Give Local event during which we offered 10% off at the register with an additional 10% of our daily sales donated to three local non-profits. We donated a $351 to each participating non-profit, including Peacemaker Resources, Project 26 Art Project, and Great River Rescue.

Peacemaker Resources is a non-profit organization based in Bemidji, MN dedicated to strengthening peace and conflict management skills throughout Minnesota and beyond. For the past 20 years, their intention is to offer universal prevention tools to groups and fellow organizations that will lead to systematic changes that benefit individuals and communities.

Project 26 is a local art initiative that is dedicated to shining a light on domestic violence. Start by local community member, Faye Neeland, the Project offers a creative outlet for survivors of sexual and domestic abuse. It runs from October to April, and during this time, their goal is to bring in 26 participants who will create an art piece for exhibition in April. It is through this exhibition that gives survivors a voice through their art.

Created in 1977 (Just like Harmony!) Great River Rescue has helped over 10,000 animals receive a second chance at life with the capacity to offer quality service to more than 300 animals per year. Great River Rescue is also a "No-Kill" shelter meaning that they do not euthanize animals on a routine basis in order to make room for other animals.

It is fulfilling to know that through partnerships like this, Harmony can contribute to the powerful work being done throughout our community. The cooperative philosophy emphasizes collaboration and friendship to create and sustain a happy, healthy community and we are glad to support all of the great efforts to better our community that will lead to an increasingly peaceful and supportive world.
